Corbin Sistruck and his Chameleon Hunting Blind
My name is Corbin Sistrunk, I'm 14 years old and an avid hunter. This past summer, my mother and I were preparing our equipment for the upcoming hunting season. My mom had purchased a Chameleon hunting blind by Cooper Hunting. She said she was going to put it on her two man "buddy" stand. I told her it wasn't going to work, but boy was I wrong.
All year I had been waiting for hunting season to come. I had my eyes on this 10 point monster I had caught on my trail cam. One day I was driving my four-wheeler across a clear-cut to mom's buddy stand. You can imagine my surprise when the 10 point I had been getting on my trail camera jumped out in front of me and ducked back into the woods. That afternoon I sat until dark and only saw a couple of does. The "Buck Fever" was setting in.
That night, I thought I would never get to sleep thinking about the next days hunt. I woke up early the next morning and went back to the Chameleon Blind; I saw five does and a small eight pointer. But I wasn't giving up; I was ready to sit there all season if that's what it took.
That afternoon I went back to the blind and shortly after getting setup, a doe walked out, grazed around and then walked back into the woods. Around 5:18pm I heard something walking behind me. As I looked down a lane we had cut into the woods, there he stood. The monster I was looking for. He was standing directly down-wind about thirty yards. He picked his head up and smelled the air trying to get a whiff of me, but it wasn't happening because the Chameleon Blind helps with scent control. After he tried to smell me, he kept on walking to my corn and rice bran and started eating. I was surprised that he didn't look at the blind but I guess it's because it blends in so good with your surroundings.
My heart was pounding like crazy, trembling, I raise my riffle. After watching him for what seemed to be an eternity, about two minutes, he finally turned, giving me a broadside shot. I told myself to relax, just breath; steady now as I gently squeezed the trigger of my 270 short mag. WAM! Perfect shot! What a rush! He ran about 25 yards and dropped.
He scored 146 3/8 so I have to give a special thanks to the Cooper Hunting Industries for keeping me scent free and concealed because I can honestly say I don't think I would have killed him if it weren't for the Chameleon Blind.
